How to read MMA predictions

Goodkat MMA estimates fight outcomes from recorded information. Use the numbers to compare a matchup, then read the evidence and limitations alongside them.

What does a 60% win probability mean?

In a well-calibrated model, fighters assigned a 60% chance would win about six out of ten comparable forecasts over time. It does not mean a particular fighter is certain to win, or that the model has measured 60% of their ability. Goodkat’s displayed winner probabilities assume a decisive result; draws and no contests are excluded.

How do KO, submission and decision percentages work?

When available, the method breakdown estimates each fighter’s chance of winning by KO/TKO, submission or decision. These are parts of that fighter’s overall win chance. For example, 30% KO/TKO, 10% submission and 20% decision add to a 60% win probability. This is an illustration, not a forecast for an actual fight.

Compare the matchup, not just the record

A record describes results against previous opponents. It does not settle how two fighters match up. Look at striking and grappling information, opponent quality, recent results, age, reach and the coverage behind those measurements. An advantage in one area may be offset in another; missing measurements should not be treated as equal ability.

What is a limited-data prediction?

A fighter with a known record may receive a limited-data winner estimate even when their full history cannot be verified. Such a forecast is labelled accordingly. Detailed method estimates may be unavailable. A reported career total is different from the subset of fights available to train the model.

Why do timestamps matter?

A saved prediction reflects information available when it was generated. A later record update or changed opponent can make an earlier forecast less relevant. Historical predictions should be judged against the original probabilities, not rewritten after a result.

Are predictions the same as betting odds?

No. Goodkat’s model probabilities are estimates. A bookmaker’s odds are offered prices and may include a margin. A high predicted win chance does not promise profit.
